Will a monitor arm actually fit your desk?

Start underneath the desktop. A clamp’s thickness range is only one part of the fit.

1. Identify the desk construction. Check the desk maker’s guidance for clamp-mounted accessories. A surface that looks solid may be hollow or have a delicate finish.
2. Measure the attachment point. Measure thickness exactly where the clamp will sit. Include a lip only if the manufacturer’s mounting instructions permit that contact arrangement.
3. Inspect the underside. Locate the frame, rear apron, drawers and cable tray. A clamp that opens wide enough may still lack a clear, flat place to grip.
4. Check the display, not just its diagonal. Look up weight without the original stand and the mounting-hole pattern. Account for anything else attached to the arm.
5. Plan the movement. Leave room for the arm behind the monitor and enough cable slack for intended adjustments. Follow the specific mount’s instructions.

When to stop and ask the manufacturer

If the desk construction, contact surface or clamp clearance is uncertain, send the desk and mount makers the exact models and measurements. A reinforcement plate or alternate attachment should not be treated as a universal fix.
